One particular highlight, an industry first for Australia, was the creation of the chandelier cake, a masterpiece of cake engineering that was the answer to one bride’s dream. since the creation of this first chandelier cake, a little cake place’s hanging and chandelier cakes have been in high demand.

While Caitlin thrives in creating masterpieces for show, she relishes most in working with her clients to create their ideal masterpiece. The Australian Bridal Industry Awards (ABIA) hold a certain place of pride for Caitlin, as its award system is based upon feedback from Brides and Grooms. Acclaimed cake decorator and founder of A Little Cake Place, Caitlin Mitchell, first began decorating cakes in 2011 after watching a scene from Bridesmaids in which Kristen Wigg’s character, Annie, creates an exquisite cupcake. Inspired by the scene, Caitlin tried her hand at an introductory course at Merivale Cakes & Crafts in Toowoomba. It became clear during the class that Caitlin had a flair for cake decorating and design.

Caitlin has since had the opportunity to develop her own personal style of old elegance and vintage designs by working with, and learning from, many well-known Australian and International cake decorators such as Debbie Brown, Carlos Lischetti, Frances McNaughton, John Quoi Hoi,

wedding day. Within the first two years of its founding, A Little Cake Place was nominated as a Finalist in the Cake Design category of the ABIA and would go on to Win the category in 2015 and 2016.

In early 2012 Caitlin was invited to attend a British Cake-Decorating Tour to further her skills at the British Sugarcraft Guild Skill School and entered her first international competition piece in the British Sugarcraft Guild International Cake Expo in Telford. Caitlin was awarded a Commendation for her cake design, an impressive achievement for such a novice designer. This competition was the same where she would go back in 2015 to win Gold.

Since founding A Little Cake Place, Caitlin Mitchell has gone from strength to strength creating beautiful and unique cakes truly establishing herself as the haute couture of cakes.
